“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5 (ESV)
We often ask God for direction while quietly holding onto our own preferred outcome. We pray for His guidance, but somewhere beneath the prayer we have already decided what we hope He will say. Yet following Jesus requires something deeper than simply hearing His voice. It requires open hands.
There are seasons when God’s direction makes sense and the road ahead seems clear. There are also seasons when obedience means trusting Him before we understand what He is doing. Proverbs reminds us not to lean entirely on our own understanding. That does not mean we stop thinking, planning or seeking wisdom. It means we recognise that our perspective is limited while God sees the whole road.
Perhaps that is what God is teaching us through the distractions, uncertainties and waiting seasons of life. We do not need to have everything worked out before we take the next faithful step. Sometimes faith simply says, “Lord, I don’t know exactly where this leads, but I trust the One who is leading me.”
Today, consider what you might still be holding too tightly. A plan. A relationship. A calling. An expectation of how something should unfold. Bring it honestly before God. You do not have to stop caring about it. You simply stop demanding that it happen according to your timetable and your understanding.
Open your hands before Him and pray: “Lord, I trust You with what I can see, and I trust You with what I cannot. Help me hear Your voice, follow Your leading, and surrender the outcome to You. Amen.”
Sometimes the greatest act of faith is not knowing what comes next. It is knowing who you are following.
