“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” — Psalm 19:1 (ESV)
The sun is shining this morning.
There is something about stepping outside into the warmth of a new day that makes me stop for a moment. The sky is bright. The light catches the trees. Shadows move across the ground. Creation seems awake.
And none of it is accidental.
David looked toward the heavens and saw more than a beautiful sky. He saw a declaration.
The glory of God is on display.
Sometimes I think I am waiting for God to reveal Himself in extraordinary ways. I look for the unmistakable answer to prayer, the powerful moment in worship, the door suddenly opening, or the voice of God becoming impossible to miss.
Yet perhaps I sometimes overlook what He has already placed in front of me.
The warmth of the sun on my face.
The movement of the trees.
The sound of birds somewhere nearby.
The enormous blue sky stretching beyond everything I can see.
Creation does not replace the Creator, but it continually points toward Him.
The sun rose this morning without my help. I didn’t have to remind the earth to turn. I didn’t have to tell the light when to appear. While I slept, God continued sustaining a world that I could never control.
There is something wonderfully humbling about that.
My mind can become consumed with everything I need to accomplish. I can carry tomorrow before today has even properly begun. I can worry about doors that haven’t opened, prayers that haven’t been answered, and things I cannot control.
Then I walk outside.
And the sun is shining.
The world is still turning.
God is still God.
Perhaps that is one of creation’s quiet sermons.
Look up.
Not everything depends on you.
The same God whose glory stretches across the heavens is present in the ordinary moments of your day.
So today, I don’t want to rush past the sunlight.
I want to notice it.
I want to stand beneath the sky for a moment and remember that before I accomplish anything, solve anything, write anything, lead anything, or understand anything, God is already here.
His creation is speaking.
His faithfulness is continuing.
And His glory is on display.
Prayer
Father, thank You for the beauty of this day.
When my mind becomes crowded with everything ahead of me, teach me to look up. Help me notice the reminders of Your presence that I so easily walk past.
The heavens declare Your glory.
Today, let my life notice it.
Let me receive the warmth of the sun, the beauty of creation, and the gift of another day as reminders that You are here, You are faithful, and You are still God.
Amen.
